How to translate French to English

In your exam you will not be asked to translate from French to English, but there are some basic rules you should know so as to speak and write proper English.
Most of the mistakes students make are due to the fact that they translate from their mother tongue into English one word at a time.
Unfortunately, not two languages work the same and there are things that apply to french and not to English...
Here are the basic mistake one should never do

1° The text speaks about
The article wants to say......NO
because a text does not have a mouth, and an article does not have consciousness, so it can't have a will, a desire

LA REGLE:
POUR UN VERBE D'ACTION OU DE VOLONTE, IL FAUT UN SUJET ANIME
VERBE ANIME = SUJET ANIME

The text is about
The article means..

2° L'ANGLAIS GARDE LE PLUS SOUVENT LA STRUCTURE CANONIQUE : SUJET, VERBE, COMPLEMENT alors que le français a recours à l'antéposition
(ex: Jeune agriculteur gallois de 35 ans, Dick a abandonné tout espoir = Dick, a young 35 -year-old Welsh farmer, has given up all hopes)
mais aussi à l'inversion
(ex: dit-elle = she said)

3° L'ANGLAIS PREFERE LES FORMES VERBALES alors que le français a souvent recours à des formes nominales
(ex: a son arrivée= when he arrived)
