New York webquest trame

New York City

Welcome to the New York City Webquest activity. You are going to use the internet to find information, answer questions, and do activities related to New York City. You will be asked to read articles and view maps to gather information to complete your worksheet. It's time to sit back and enjoy a trip to The Big Apple, New York City!

The Tasks:
At the end of the project, the student will have a knowledge of the following:
Central park using map skills
Reading weather information
A painting observed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art
Take an online quiz
New York City subway system
Some major sites in New York

The Resources:
1. We are about to leave for a trip to New York City. Before we pack our suitcases, we need to find out what the weather will be like. Click on New York City's weather to find out. On your worksheet, write the temperature, conditions, (cloudy, rain, snow, sunny) and chose the best day to go to New York.
2. We have arrived in The Big Apple. We want to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art today. You will find a painting called, "Heart of the Andes." On your worksheet, tell me what you think the "Andes" are, and what year "Heart of The Andes" was painted. For a bonus, tell me the artists name, and how long he lived.

3. We want to go for a picnic in Central Park. We will enter the park at the Grand Army Plaza. On the left side of the screen, you will find a compass. I want you to click on W to go west. On your worksheet, tell me where you are now. After our picnic, we want to explore. For a bonus, click N to go north to the Gapstow Bridge, the click E to go east. Where are you now?

4. Now let's go to the famous Empire State Building. You will arrive at a site that will tell you some important facts about the Empire State Building. On your worksheet, write how tall the ESB is, and how many years it was the tallest building in the world. At the bottom of the page, you will find prices for visitors. Write down the number of adults and children in your family, and the total price of the tickets.

5. Without the subway, people would have a very difficult time getting around New York. We have been to see the Yankees play in Yankee Stadium, and we need to get to Grand Central Station. Using the subway map, how many regular stops are there between 161 Street and Grand Central Station? Hint: the track color is green.

6. Before we leave New York, we will visit the Statue of Liberty. We will take a ferry boat ride to the middle of New York Harbor, then climb to the crown of "Lady Liberty." You do not have to write anything down, just enjoy the tour.

7. Now take an online quiz to test your knowledge! This quiz is just for fun, so you will not be graded.
